I'm left having to enjoy the efforts of other schools to divest themselves of shitty coaching.

watching all these other schools hire new coaches, getting excited again, and so forth. While we sit here and wallow in the mire.

If Croom isn't going anywhere | #2

Expect thousands of MState fans not to be going anywhere Scott Field next fall. If Greg byrne keeps Croom, he needs to set up a series of "3 game season
ticket" packages, that include Alabama, Jackson State, and UAB, for $70. Bammers will buy up those tickets.

Some Ole Miss fans were excited with Coach O.
Bama fans were excited with Coach Shula. Michigan fans couldn't see straight with Coach Rodriguez. The excitement wears off when players that the previous coach recruited don't play nearly as hard and don't fit whatever system the new coach is bringing in. Also, what coaches are available. Make no mistake I think Ole Miss got very lucky with Nutt, if he stays at Ark, who do we hire? Neuheisel told us maybe, but we were second behind UCLA, and he would have went to UCLA. I don't think we would have gotten Johnson who went to Ga Tech, so who would we have hired? Seriously. It could have been an offensive line coach with recruiting rankings in his pocket, you just never know. If a change is made, I hope Byrne has a name in mind and a commitment from him prior to Croom being let go. Im pretty sure we had that in place, and when you are not a big fish like OM and MSU, you have to have all your ducks in a row, or you get stuck holding an O. |

Coach O was a complete retard. UM was just hoping that he sucked off Pete Carrol enough to get | #5

some coaching ability. We honestly can't do hardly any worse than what we have. Unless our defense (which Croom just leaves alone) doesn't score
enough to win, we don't have a chance. Most SEC schools would have fired Croom in his second year after he lost to Maine, Tulane, or whoever you want to
list. Croom can win games only if something bad happens to the other team. Interceptions, fumbles or whatever.

What is amusing to me.... | #6
|
....is that names that have been floated on this board as possible replacements are all being mentioned for major jobs, pretty much knocking them out of our
league. Leach (Ha), Kelly, Peterson, and Muschamp are all pretty much off the board. When we do end up with Croom, despite the salary we can pay, we'll
end up with a retread or a noname. We won't get one of the hottest names in college football like many fools on this board believe.

OMlawdog wrote:After the 2006 season was over, I watched a 30-minute program on Kenny Stabler on one of the regional sports channels. It was obviously taped that summer. When they asked him about Shula, Stabler went on about how good of a job he was doing and how he was going to be at Bama for a long time and win a lot of games there. I got a kick out of that. I don't see anything that would indicate that you had any kind of deal in place with Nutt when you fired Orgeron. You even hired a search firm to help you find a new coach and then had to pay a cancellation fee when you found Nutt on your own within about 48 hours (my suspicion is that Nutt found you and Khayat/Boone had the sense to not waste any time saying yes). |

Its my understanding... | #8

That after 50 people showed up for the NW St game, Khayat let it be known to agents that O was going to be let go, and Sexton basically said Nutt would be
available. We inquired about Neuheisel who told us that he wanted the UCLA job, and basically told Sexton that we would hire Nutt immediately.
Being an Ole Miss fan for as long as I have, there is no way possible we were able to make a decision this quickly and with very little controversy unless the parties had talked previously. I don't think Nutt leaves Arkansas unless he knows there is a plan in place somewhere comparable. Trust me, it is a rare occurrence for Ole Miss to do something right, but this kind of fell in our lap. Truth is that Tubby could fall in MSU's lap, not sure he would be interested, but it would be a great hire for MSU. No reason GB shouldn't put out feelers especially if Croom loses to Ark. |

You are correct, and that means that we need to look at a really good OC like Mullen at UF or the the OC at Mizz, or a guy who is a HC at a CUSA school like
Tulsa or Rice. Just becuase you strike out with the hot names doesn't mean there aren't any good coaches out there. Hatcher at GSU, the guy at
UT-Martin who actually went to school at MSU. I feel confidant when the day comes we hire a new HC we will make a good hire

I trust in Byrne too.... | #12

....but it kills me that there are so many people throwing around the aforementioned names, that are so out of our league. Just because you are a retread
(Nutt) or a noname (Tressell) doesn't mean it's a bad hire, and just because you are a big name doesn't make you a good hire (DickRod).

Several names that may be interested are.... | #13

Jeff Bower, Terry or Tommy Bowden, or Phil Fulmer. All have had success and are good football coaches. I know they don't have the flare of a Mike Leech or
Chris Petersen, but I don't think Leech would be interested and it's not very often Western coaches come east of the MS. Of course, as mentioned, the
coaches at Houston and Tulsa would probably do a good job as well.
As for Coach Nutt, I think we (OM) got lucky to get him, and I hope we're smart enough to keep him. BTW, I hope ya'll stomp the Hogs because Petrino is an ass. |
