    As bad as we are

performing, overall, in baseball right now, Rooker is absolutely killing it.

He's leading the league in avg, slugging, OB%, RBIs, 2Bs, HRs, SBs, and TBs.

This kid's gonna get paid, if he keeps this up.

He is the Jeff Malone of our otherwise shitty baseball team.

Those 5 1/2, errr, 6 guys actually beat #7 Kentucky one night, and held Dominique Wilkin's Georgia Bulldogs to 26 points.

A self inflicted shitty baseball team. We pull our defending SEC champion head baseball coach off the bench and put him into an office, causing mass confusion, multiple defections, unhappy coaches, and loads of money in the pockets of local orthopedic surgeons.

We really can't get out of our own way.

Actually, this seems to have been building for a while now. Ever since the national title run, Cohen got softer and softer every year. Stopped recruiting the tough kids, and got the wimps (albeit some of them had plenty of talent). Patched them together last year with some JUCOs and had the talent to win it all, but didn't. There is absolutely ZERO reason for 2015 to shake out the way it did, it should have been a 2012 type season at worst. Where the hell were all those high talent sophomores that year?

I personally think we needed a new approach. The timing wasn't great for the new hire, but not everything is perfect.

Agree about the need for a change. This year was going to happen whether Cohen was still coach or not and it is yet another terrible season under his watch. He's had some good highs, but he's had way too many unacceptable lows. Timing was awful and I have no idea if he's made a good hire or a bad one. But we did need a change. Here's hoping he's a better AD than he was a baseball coach.

No doubt. He has to be looking at a major payday in a couple months.

I'll never complain about Cohen. To me, MSU lacks "banners" in our athletic department history. He hung his fair share including our first outright title in any sport is over a decade.

A regular season title is second only to a national title, IMO. Really wish our WBB had split one of their last two games.

Let's not go too far. Your criticisms of Cohen from 2009-2013 (when you finally shut up for a while) were incredibly dumb. I can certainly get on board with the decisions made since then but that doesn't make him a bad coach. I do think he over-thought some things because his love of MSU caused some irrational thought. But he's a smart guy and will probably be the best AD we've ever had.

No, he's not Ray Tanner, Dan McDonnell or Tim Corbin, but he's definitely a good coach. He totally rebuilt two SEC programs from the ground up. And no matter what anyone says, Cannizaro isn't having to TOTALLY rebuild this program. He at least has a foundation with a pretty good freshman and sophomore class on campus.

I'll always give him credit for the good years. 2013 was an incredible season. Maybe the best ever for MSU. But he's had way more than his share of terrible seasons too (including this year), and that many terrible seasons is inexcusable at a baseball school like MSU.

So if Cohen was the coach, we wouldn't suck? Incorrect.

How about 2015 and 2017 (and maybe 201?

2015 and 2017 count. But see, my problem is this:

2 seasons? And who knows, if Cohen was at the helm this one might not be QUITE as bad. We'll never really know. Maybe Henderson stays in line, maybe not. Maybe we sign Mitchell Miller, maybe not.

2018 won't be this bad. We will make a regional unless we have 3-4 more new guys go down with injury. Don't get crazy, the program isn't in terrible shape.

What's your 2018 batting order, assuming Gridley and Mangum both go pro?

    Stovall
    Alexander
    Skelton
    Gordon
    McNamee
    Blaylock
    Poole
    Vansau
    Bragg

In some order, all a year older. I expect McNamee, Bragg and Vansau to make jumps. Gordon may or may not, but we've also got 3 pretty hotshot JUCOs in Rivera, Gilbert and Pener if we get lucky with the draft. I expect Stovall, Alexander, Skelton and Blaylock to all develop like good players tend to do. Gridley is up 70 points from last year, Rooker 120. It happens. That's before impact freshmen, of which we have a few.

Expected that. In your world, players never get better with another year of maturity. Got it. Carry on, doom and despair, 15 year rebuild, etc.

I agree with everything said here. After this season Cannizzaro will become the highest paid college baseball coach in history because of his "potential".
