Does Scott Stricklin become the new AD, or does he follow Byrne to wherever? (Or do we hire someone else entirely?)

I'm sure Scott would apply and would get a ton of backing simply because of who his father-in-law is. I have no knowledge of how good he is at his job but
I hope whoever makes the next hire will do a legit search and hire the best person.

Why would he want to leave? We are dying to support an institution that is moving in the right direction.
You have the ability to turn MSU into a powerhouse in the SEC if you put forth the effort. What other conference offers an athletic program what our conference offers? We would be happy with a Sweet 16, super-regional, and bowl with 8-9 wins every year... some programs want titles or you get the X Note to Keenum: Do what you have to do to keep this man hired! |

Here's the problem with that Coach. I've worked in athletic departments in two different BCS conference and most young ADs and Associate ADs think the
same way. To them it isn't only about the money; it's about the money and proving they can succeed in positions where others could not. They are very
similar to CEOs that turn around struggling companies before moving on the next struggling company and so on.
Further, a lot of athletic administrators believe an ADs tenure should generally run about 8-10 years. They think no matter how well you do the job, there will be people that disagree with every decision you make and eventually you'll piss off enough people to make your job tougher than it should be. At that point it's time to move on. Just look at how long Greg's dad has stayed at his last few schools before moving. With that said, I hope like hell we hold on to him for as long as possible.

We may very well lose him before long. I think we get 5 years out of him minimum though...I'm not sure if he wants the bigtime AD job or what. But he is smart enough to know this job is his as long as he wants it and I think we will pay him decently. I dont worry about losing someone like others do- because basically, we havent lost anyone worth a damn since Darrell Royal in the 1950's. If we lose a good one like Byrne or Mullen, then we just have to make another good hire.

i never hollered "LT!!!" when LT drove by in a golf cart. I was way more likely to give him the middle finger. I do, however, yell "Greg Byrne,
woooo!" when he drives by in a golf cart. he's the man. I think he sticks around for a while. You think him being an alumni gives him one of those
weird reasons we sometimes keep jobs, etc?

Have you ever talked to the guy? Very knowledgeable, personable, and a great PR guy. He does well in front of a crowd, and you can tell he loves MSU. And he is
an alumnus.
He's also been working in athletics administration for close to 20 years now, a good part of that time working closely with Byrne. I think he's probably learned a lot. /campaign manager |

I have heard GB say that an AD should only stay at a school for 7-10 years after that they become stale and new blood and ideas should be brought in

I see the point but also a good AD will keep bringing in fresh people to keep the ideas coming. I want to keep Byrne as long as we can, but yest if he feels
burned out then I want him gone. We don't need to go through another 15 year LT spell. We have a wave of momentum right now that is killing everyone else
in the state.

Greg is the lowest paid AD in the conference. At some point we will lose him, but it should be because he was so successful here that someone paid him big
bucks to leave. Pay him now. We should raise his salary by at least 100K based on his performance in bringing in more revenue. Learfield Sports, Adidas, the
MooTube, John Cohen, Dan Mullen, better exposure in the biggest market in Mississippi-Jackson by getting all of our sports on 105.9. These items put butts in
the seats and money in MSU and the local economy. He needs to be thanked and the best way is by paying him for what he is worth. If we don't, someone will.
