That should show how pathetic we were in hoops prior to the Williams/Stansbury eras.

Stansbury is 17-44 against the top 25, and 51-82 overall against the top 50...I rest my case (numbers compliments of ScoobaDawg) "The best proven coordinator out there from a big school and the best head coach from a non-BCS program would not give MSU the time of day." - Willie Cunningham...a k a Ol Blew...a k a irsdawg" - October 22nd, 2008 |

Not sure how old Kennedy is... | #3

but he will be Mississippi's all-time winningest if he stay 5 more years...he will probably be 4th all-time in just his 4th season by the end of the year

Urban's record | #4 | ||
|
Urban Meyer is 53-9 in 5th season at UF
Doug Dickey was 58-43-2 in nine seasons Someone named Steve Spurrier was 122-27-1 in his time in Gainesville. I realize Urban is very successful with two national titles and all but he is at least 3rd in wins at UF as of right now. Also Urban was born July 10, 1964 which makes him 45 years old. That's not "a lot younger" than 49 by anyone's standards.

I think the intent of the original post was not to say that Stans is the ONLY younger coach to be the winningest of their school. Just that there are very few
of them. Ofcourse there are younger ones, but it is not the norm.
And I think the other point in his post is that before Williams and Stans got here, we weren't really a dominant powerhouse of a program. |

well, we are talking about winningest coaches... | #12

and he owns 2 of the winningest in Mississippi history
Should he stay, he will be Mississippi's winningest coach before he is 49...and thats what the thread is about

How do you know AK will stay?? | #14
|
How do you know he wont get a DUI next week? How do you know he wont punch another cabbie?? How do you know he won't just suck and get fired??
Whether you like it or not the likelihood of Stans being involved in something embarrassing off the court is highly unlikely. Also, he is more SUCCESFUL or WINNINGest over AK as well, because he built something here in Starkville, MS of all places. AK is a good coach, but all things being equal I would much rather have Stans and anybody with more than 2 brain cells that did not attend Ole Miss would too. Would I want Donovan more than Stans? Of course, but then so would every other school in Div. I save North Carolina or Kansas maybe. |

He needs about 80 or so wins...should he stay 5 years, he is going to get there easily...hell, you can win 15 basketball games a year beating nothing but shit

When you say "Mississippi"..... | #19
|
Are you talking about Ole Miss? I assume so. Becoming Ole Miss' all time winning basketball coach is like winning the shortest midget contest.
Anyway, my point was that there are not many coaches that become the all time winningest at their school before the age of 50. You changed the term to "successful" instead of winningest. Two different things. Babe McCarthy was our most successful in my opinion. Four overall SEC titles is pretty tough and of course there was not a 64 team field then either. |

Dan Mullen could do it pretty easily | #20
|
Let's assume at worst that he doesn't win any more games this year. Jackie is our winningest coach with 75 wins. That means he needs 71 wins to be
the winningest coach at MSU. Dan is currently 37 and turns 38 in April, during the offseason. That means he needs 11 years to amass these 71 wins. If he
averages 6.5 wins a season, he will be the winningest coach ever at MSU at 49 years of age in his 12th season here. Unless he does even better, we would beat
either Bama, Arkansas or Ole Miss to get him there.
If he does even close to that well, he will not be here more than 5 years. |
