I'm a little fuzzy on the accepted SPS definition of irony, but does anyone else think.. |

...it's at least noteworthy that on the day The Blind Side is released the biggest topic of discussion in Oxford is when the Klan rally is scheduled?

Irony and comedy are the two words I'm coming up with. | #1

Rebel fan coworker said it best yesterday. He said the dumbest thing the University could've done was to threaten a bunch of frat boys. Just made them
want to yell the phrase that much more.

The irony is really something when you think about it | #2
|
The staggering duality of man's existence on display in one weekend. At one end, you have the petulant frat boys who have been forbidden from chanting a
slogan wistful of the days when their classmates, and many of the players they are actually cheering for were treated inconceivably poorly. And at their
defense, a "secret society" not currently associated with the formally educated set to protect these fine young southern men from the evils of the
modern existence. All the while, giving LSU fans, of all people, the chance to observe "Oh my, how gauche."
And yes, all of this happening while they could be garnering some warm-fuzzies from the saccharine Hollywood adaptation of the stunning rise of one of their
own (even if, cinematically speaking,
reviews are mixed). It all goes to show, that nothing on earth, no accents, no food, no flag, NOTHING will ever be as Southern as cutting off your nose to
spite your face.

a word that is best to never, ever use...ever. Unless, of course, your name is Alanis Morissette.

It's really not that difficult a concept... | #7
|
The word, like many others in our language, has been misused so frequently that any humor found in a situation is considered "ironic" when quite
often it's the opposite. It's like "begging the question" - that phrase is misused far, far more often than not. If, for example, I call you
a dubmass because you can't spell, that's ironic.

Define irony. Bunch of idiots dancing on a plane to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash. --Garland Greene

Is how they are trying to pin this on the students. I've watched a few videos of this song being played and listened to the chant. In each instance it is
very clear that regular fans were chanting it too.
The students are simply a convenient scapegoat.
