I don’t understand some of the hype I’ve seen with OM this year. Defense will be ass again

Msdeltareb coming in hot with the 10-2 take!

They might be the hardest team to handicap in the SEC. If they have even the 10th best defense in the league, they could win 9 or 10 games. They won’t.

8-4 (4-4). Losses to Alabama, Auburn, aTm, and State. This is a very favorable schedule. It wouldn’t shock me for them to beat Auburn or State. Even though I picked them to beat LSU, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if LSU won that game either.

Defense will not be "good" but will be much better. Suspect we'll be around middle of the SEC pack on defense and right at the top on offense.

Haha, yeh 10-2 if literally everything goes right...and it never does. 9-3/8-4 is much more realistic.

I have a tough time seeing OM’s defense being middle of the pack in the SEC. OM’s D was 126 out of 127 teams last year in total D. So you think the defense will improve that much?

Msdeltareb

By 'middle of the pack" I don't mean we will have the seventh best defense...just saying we clearly wont be best but will also be clearly better than last. Defensive backfield and LBers will be much improved and there is reason to believe the D line will take a decent step forward.

So OM’s definition of “middle of the pack” is anywhere from 2-13 in the SEC. Gotcha, well statistically OM can’t do worse than last year so maybe you’ll be right.

If I have to pick a number Ill venture that we will end up 8th or 9th in the league on defense and #1 on offense.

I think the Louisville game in Atlanta is sneaky tough. I'm a Satterfield fan and he's got a three year starter at QB against what I'm assuming (until proven otherwise) will be another bad Ole Miss defense. Think UL has a better chance in this neutral site game than some have been giving them.

I think they lose to Bama, Auburn, A&M, and State in conference play. For what it's worth I think we have a similar season, I have us losing to either NC State or Memphis and then ending up in the 6 to 8 win range.

I think this is all very fair. Louisville is certainly no cakewalk in week 1. And Liberty sandwiched between about 7 straight SEC games with no bye weeks, it being their super bowl, and freeze being a good big game coach.. yeah, it scares me. I won’t lie. Both of our OOC schedules are tougher than normal this year.

I think we upset someone big this year, and also lose a head scratcher.

I think our fan base is getting a little too excited and ahead of themselves, as well. It’s year 2 of a complete rebuild and they’re talking like 7-5 will be a disappointment. That rarely ends well for us.

With all that said, I think our offense was insanely good last year. The stats are pretty crazy considering the 10 games we played. I think we take a step back offensively. Elijah Moore is THAT DUDE. He will be an NFL star. We ain’t replacing him. We will be worse at TE, too. The OL and QB and RB positions will be very good. I think our defense takes a marginal step forward. Which should offset the step back the offense takes. So we will be a slightly better version of last years team, which in fairness, went 5-5 against a 9 SEC team schedule and against #11 Indiana. And was in every game in the 4th quarter. That probably translates into us being around 7-4 rolling into Starkville, and then y’all will get to decide what kind of momentum each program has going into what will be pivotal offseason, for both programs. It’s going to be fun.
