    Ya Boy 2013

Often imitated, never duplicated. It is that time again, time to lock in "ya boy" for the 2013 season. We will archive this thread with the Preseason Prognostications. My selections from last year were as follows:

Offensive MVP: Nick Griffin. Toughest choice for me....Russell is #2, Perk #3.
Defensive MVP: Jon. Banks. 1A: Nickoe Whitley - green light this mother17er, he is 100% and ready to truck some fools - I hate he missed spring, because if his coverage ability improves he could be the best safety in the conference.
    Offensive Breakout Player: Nick Griffin
Defensive Breakout Player: Denico Autry - should fill up the stat sheets with our secondary getting him some extra time.
Freshman of the Year: Joe Morrow

Accountability sucks...and so did I last year.

Here is a link to last year's threads, so you can all see how stupid we were: http://info.sixpackspeak.com/topic/91311

As a refresher, "ya boy" in the PTI dialect is basically your favorite player on the team. You will be open to ridicule if your boy flops and entitled to tout said player as "ya boy" when he performs well this season. We could call it "Your Favorite Player" but that is just boring. As a bonus we will also do everyone's selections for Offensive MVP, Defensive MVP, Offensive Breakout Player, Defensive Breakout Player and Rookie (Freshman) of the Year.

To review the leaders from the 2012 thread:
Nickoe broke a lot of hearts last year. He won in a landslide with 19 votes.
6 votes - Russell, Cam Lawrence, Jameon
    5 votes - Banks
    4 votes - Josh Robinson
3 votes - Morrow, Slay, Griffin, Cherrington (really?)
2 votes - Perkins (down from 13 votes the previous year)
1 vote - Bumphis (nice call Coach66, the rest of us jumped off the bandwagon), Redmond, Broomfield, C Smith, M Green, McKinney, Boyd

For the computer-stupid out there, just copy and past the below form and insert your selections:

"Ya Boy": RoJo - he quickly became my boy early last year.
Offensive MVP: Russell, just because it has to be. High hopes for M. Johnson...also hoping Griffin gets back.
    Defensive MVP: Preston Smith
    Offensive Breakout Player: RoJo
    Defensive Breakout Player: Cox
Freshman of the Year: FredEx Ross

    I'll give it a go

"Ya Boy": Benardrick McKinney. I think he is going to go nuts in this defense this year, especially if the DL plays up to potential. They should free him up to make a ton of tackles. I love watching him play and you can clearly see that he's a pretty special guy. He's my boy this year.
Offensive MVP: Tyler Russell. He's going to break all of our major passing records this year. Him maturing this year by getting rid of the ball more quickly, finding his checkdowns, and getting rid of the ball will be the difference in us winning a game against a big time opponent.
Defensive MVP: McKinney again here. I think he gets 1st team All SEC this year. I think he's got a great shot of 120 tackles or more, will get a couple sacks, and going to be around the ball a lot. Has to step up as the leader of the front 7 and I think he does. Had a breakout year last year and I think he continues it with a solid 2013 season.
Offensive Breakout: Jameon Lewis. He's got what you need in a slot receiver. But can he finally put it all together? I think he does. 700 receiving yards, 6 TDs, and a kickoff or punt return for a TD.
Defensive Breakout: Jamerson Love. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people. The guy already had the speed and some skill, and now we have Townsend to refine these young CBs. I think Love will impress and will show that he is an SEC CB.
Freshman of the Year: Chris Jones. I just think we will get to the point where we can't keep him off the field. He's too much of a physical specimen to sit him on the bench for extended periods. We have to see what he's got and what he can do against the SEC.

"Ya Boy" - Nick Griffen. I've been saying he was the most talented back on the team for 2 years now. Can't stop now.
Offensive MVP: Russell is the obvious choice, so ill go Malcolm Johnson.
    Defensive MVP: McKinney
    Offensive Breakout Player: Jameon
    Defensive Breakout Player: Matt Wells
Freshman of the Year: Fred Ross

Is he expected to contribute this year? I haven't heard much concerning his rehab.

    Griffin that is*

"Ya Boy": Replacing my previous "Ya Boy" of Unc Broomfield is my fellow Clintonian Cedric Jiles.
Offensive MVP: Russell. It's gotta be Russell.
Defensive MVP: McKinney. "Bernardrick for Bednarik." (He's my honorable mention "Ya Boy," too.)
Offensive Breakout Player: RoJo. He looked fantastic at the practice I watched. He can be a big piece of the puzzle for us.
Defensive Breakout Player: Cox is a tempting pick, but I'm going to say Autry (as I did last year). I'm hoping he puts it all together this year and we can finally get some pass rush.
Freshman of the Year: As excited as I am about Fred Ross, I'm going with Chris Jones. We've got to get some pressure on the QB.

  12. #12
I hear he's ahead of where he was both physically and mentally. I still think it'll be 6 games before he's really ready, and who knows how high his ceiling really isn't this point.

  13. #13
I hope he makes a full recovery and gets to fully showcase his skills. I really like the way he runs. He has had some really bad luck.

    Ya Boy 2013

"Ya Boy" : Nickoe Whitley...The NFL changed their contact rules in anticipation of the day Nickoe was drafted.
    Offensive MVP: Gabe Jackson
Defensive MVP: Justin Cox...we haven't had a lock down corner like this since....last year. Seriously though, may be more athletic than banks and a step faster.
Offensive Breakout Player: De'Runnya Wilson...We signed Mr. Alabama Basketball to a football scholarship? Can you say fade route in the corner of the end zone bitch?
Defensive Breakout Player: Chris Jones. He's eating a bowl of Frosted Hater Flakes the mornin' of the game and guess who's picture is on the box...the opposing team's quarter back!!
Freshman of the Year: Beniquez Brown

Offensive MVP: Russell... It's got to be him for us to be our best

"Ya Boy": Malcolm Johnson - Just needs to stay healthy.

Offensive MVP: Tyler Russell. Gonna be an awful year if not.

    Defensive MVP: Benardrick McKinney.
Gonna have the most tackles on the team and the other LBs will be in better positions hopefully.

    Offensive Breakout Player: Jameon Lewis.
I think he finally puts it all together this year and hopefully holds on to the ball.

    Defensive Breakout Player: Justin Cox.
This is more of a hope thing but the tall and long CBs have worked pretty damn well for us.

Freshman of the Year: Cedric Jiles
. Tough one here. I don't think any of the freshman are going to stand out with huge roles this year. But this guy seems the most likely to fight for playing time since we will likely be trying out a few people and subbing quite a bit with CB until we have the best 2 guys locked down. If it weren't for Skinner and Wells being back I'd go with one of the Browns.

Great minds think alike I guess. I honestly didn't read all of the lists through. For the sake of not being "that guy" I'll switch my offensive MVP to Perkins. I honestly wanted to do that originally anyways.

Offensive MVP: Tyler Russell - Hard work finally pays off
Defensive MVP: Benardrick McKinney - he can only get better
Offensive Breakout Player: RoJo - Will make us quickly forget about losing starters
Defensive Breakout Player: Chris Jones - The pain train's comin'!
Freshman of the Year: Chris Jones - duh

    My Boy - J. Chappelle

these are mine from last year, the only ones I may have gotten right are breakouts and offensive MVP. I thought the line did well last year minus run blocking.
    "Ya Boy": Joe Morrow
    Offensive MVP: EntireO line
    Defensive MVP: D. Autry
    Offensive Breakout Player: J. Robinson
    Defensive Breakout Player: Ben Mckinney
Freshman of the Year: Quay/Nick James

    this year 2013:
    "Ya Boy": Jeremey Chappelle
    Offensive MVP: Russell or LDP
    Defensive MVP: Justin Cox
    Offensive Breakout Player: Tubby
    Defensive Breakout Player: Denico Autry
    Freshman of the Year:
    Chris Jones

Chappelle gonna blow if he learns the right routes. he run blocks like a freight train.
Russell or LDP better be our mvp's if we are to be successful
Justin Cox is going to be our best DB, tho the other corner is probably more important to secondary success.
We need both of our outside wr's to have great years. Tubby needs to be what we thought he could be.
I am calling on Denico because I also don't think he was all he could be last year.
I think Chris has to contribute as much talent as he has. The only other one possible is Junebug, and I don't think he is ready for SEC ball yet.

This is one my favorite threads of the year. Thanks Azzuri.

    My picks from last year:

"Ya Boy": Tyler Russell...it's finally his time
    Offensive MVP: Tyler Russell
    Defensive MVP: Josh Boyd
Offensive Breakout Player: Chad Bumphis...it's disappointing it's taken this long but I think he's finally going to shine
    Defensive Breakout Player: PJ Jones
Freshman of the Year: Quay Evans

Some good picks (Bump) and some bad ones (PJ).

    This year:

"Ya Boy": Tyler Russell ...was there any doubt?
Offensive MVP: Tyler Russell ...as he goes, we go.
Defensive MVP: Deonte Skinner ...he's got all the experience and ability to be great.
Offensive Breakout Player: Malcolm Johnson ...someone has got to pick up Bump's slack.
Defensive Breakout Player: Nick James ...if he breaks out, our defense could be special.
Freshman of the Year: Chris Jones ...who else?

  40. #40

Always one of my favorite topics...

"Ya Boy": Nickoe Whitley - 3 years running. Can only be better than he was last year. Here's hoping he lays someone out in Houston to start the season right.
Offensive MVP: Russell. Does he wow you every game, no. Does he do enough to get us back to a bowl game yes. Thank you very much now lets get back to the read option Mullen knows.
Defensive MVP: Benardrick McKinney. 6'5" 240 down hill and in the middle of the field. Love it. I think he is going to suprise in pass coverage also.
Offensive Breakout Player: Malcom Johnson. Only reason I saw break out is because I think he will be a huge part of our total offense this season and not just a red zone target like he and MArcus Green were last year. Followed closely by Fred Ross.
Defensive Breakout Player: Cedric Jiles. Awesome athlete who works hard and is being coached up by one of the best corners coaches we have ever had. I think a few of our DB's breakout at the corner position. They will be tested and if they meet said test breakout will be at this position group.
Freshman of the Year: Chris Jones. Just a physically imposing and superior athlete. I think he has an immediate impact and is a match up night mare. I think we play him inside and out and he gets a lot of snaps.
