Is there one particular punt you are most proud of, and if so, what was the game and situation?

That story sounds familiar. Had a conversation with another former player that was labeled one of Jackie’s guys by Croom. Was benched his sr season because of it. I’m sure it happens all the time. Doesn’t make it any less shitty for a coach to do that just because you’re not one of his guys.

Kudos to you for playing for Mullenz, starting this thread and having a great sense of humor. Most of all, thanks for putting on the MSU uniform and representing our school. Look like you have done well after graduation, congrats.

A couple of questions if you can answer, what is one thing about Mullenz coaching or personality that would surprise us (good or bad) and why do you think he had such a hard time with Defensive Coordinators?

Punting always seemed to be pretty solid under Dan, from Heath Hutchins to yourself to Devon Bell to Logan Cooke, but field goal kicking seemed to be a circus many times and we were always pretty underwhelming in the return game. Why do you think that is, and how much focus did special teams actually get in practice?

On that UGa game - was the team aware of Niko personally watering the hedges? Did anyone else do the same?

How much do players pay attention to message boards? Negative/positive comments “inside information” etc?

    How much do coaches?

Once on campus, how do players view recruiting of new players? Follow closely? Don’t care? Excited/disappointed?

    Yep.

The reason for the goggles in that Twitter pic was pretty crazy. Early December, I developed a bad bacteria infection in my left eye. Got close to losing sight in that eye. Had to go to UAB in Bham and take drops for 30 minutes for the next 24 hours. Couldn't wear contacts for a while after that. So we got prescription goggles. I couldn't keep the ladies off of me.

It was a great honor to represent the dawgs. I appreciate that.

Honestly, what you saw was pretty much him.

From what I'm told, he had a control problem and would override/undermine a lot of what the D coordinator was trying to do. See Texas A&M 2012.

I think there were a few factors with that. A good bit of the time, he wouldn't tell the kickers who was starting that week. He wouldn't even tell them the day of the game. His philosophy was that you should be ready at all times. Which is fine but I can just tell you, when you know you're the starter, you approach that whole week differently. You are more serious. You think through things differently. He hated specialists as a whole. He'd make us run half gassers on Thursdays before the game just because. There were plenty of times where we'd be sore or tight on Saturday's because of that. There was a time during camp that if the kicker made a 45 yard field goal, no one had to run. He made it. Everybody got to go in to the locker room. He made us run anyway.

Just stuff like that contributes to the lack of success I think.

It varies per player. I liked to read up to just get a feel for what the fans are thinking. I will tell you that it was laughable how much misinformation was out there when people would post stuff from "credible sources". I miss not being in the know.

Could be wrong but I don't think coaches read the boards. I'd be willing to bet that they have someone checking though to make sure sensitive information isn't out there.

Don't care. You're pretty caught up in football and school at that point.

But he still deserves to be the downvote.

Do you think Boniol told Mullen to stop making the kickers run these gassers so they wouldn't be sore, and it helped our FG kicking since? Is Mullen the type of guy who would listen to an assistant coach, even though said assistant coach is very good at doing it himself?

Was there ever a time when we lost a game where there was visible tension amongst the players. I.e some players blaming others for the loss?

I can't think of one to be honest. We were a pretty tight group. I think a lot of that can be credited towards Balis.

Boy, this explains a LOT about the kicking issues on his teams. He has no earthly idea what makes kickers good at their craft if he was playing those mind games with them and stressing their legs two days prior to a game. Gas'em early in the week IF you're going to.

Pisses me off because it would have made a big difference in some games.

Absolutely. I made sure to keep all the ones that had me on there.

I did have to have talks with myself during certain weeks because I was slacking off in practice. I only got in an altercation with myself once as well.

Yeah. This all reads like a textbook example of how NOT to coach kickers.
