Booze sales at Alex Box in 2019

    Will MSU follow suit?

    per Dandydon.com

And here’s another noteworthy announcement: “The Yard” opens Friday at Alex Box Stadium. Here’s a press release by LSU to tell you what’s it all about:All LSU baseball fans over the age of 21 will have access to two new areas at Alex Box Stadium featuring beer and wine sales. Named “The Yard,” the new tented areas will be located at the left and right outfield corners. The Yard at Alex Box Stadium will operate in much the same way as The Chute at Tiger Stadium. Fans ages 21 and over can purchase a wristband at either location or near the grandstand entrance gates. The wristband is $20 and includes two beverages.Additional beverages can be purchased inside the premium area starting at $6. Fans who purchase a wristband will have access to both locations of The Yard, which will have television monitors to watch the action.Due to Southeastern Conference regulations, all sales must be consumed in the tented area. The left and right field locations will open two hours before first pitch. Beer and wine sales will end at the close of the 7th inning.

No... MSU will not follow suit...$20 for two Beers is a little steep.... BYOC and a red solo cup.

There is no need for us to follow suit when we can already bring coolers in.

If you see this happening at State, it will be because the powers that be banned coolers.

Alcohol on Mississippi campuses is against the law. It would require the State legislature (and governor) to change the law.

Having lived in various parts of the country, I find it ludicrous that Mississippi still has this mindset. There is so much money they are missing out on.

Part of the fun of college bball games is having a $9 beer and complaining about it. **

As far as I know, that's true. But how do they get around the law and allow Club areas to stock whatever they want? Officials just look the other way?

I also thought it was an SEC rule no alcohol sold at SEC sporting events?

Cause it's not being bought/sold. That's just people bringing it in before the game to their lockers.

The SEC rule only covers "general" seating areas

LSU and others are getting around it by creating "premium" areas like what they are doing at Alex Box. Last year there was a lot of talk about lifting the SEC rule and leaving it up to each school, but I believe the general rule stayed in place.

Our state law does not allow the "sale or consumption" at public athletic events at schools or universities. Carrying it into the club level is allowed, the consumption technically is in violation of the law but it is obviously not enforced.

How many states allow these sales?

But it's still on campus, and supposedly not allowed at all on campus.

That rule changed over a decade ago when the county rules changed. There are still rules about possession under 21, having it in dorms, etc., but you can stop supposing that it’s not allowed on campus.

I think the club areas are designated "resort areas" or something like that and therefore can have alcohol.
