    Pack Mentality: Best Sushi

Big Fan of Edo/Haru in Jackson for the best deal on good sushi in town.

Favorite Sushi in Jackson regardless of price: Ichiban (the fancy one, not the buffet).

Favorite Sushi anywhere? probably Vintij Wine Boutique in Destin.

And I'll throw in a vote for the buffet as well. For the price, you can easily get your money's worth off that buffet. It's always very fresh and a great variety. Not the absolute best tasting stuff ever, or the most exotic, but it's still damn good and a good deal, too.

Best I ever had? I don't really know actually. One of the best I remember was just buying a tuna steak from Perdido Bay seafood, taking it back to the condo, slicing it it, and drizzling a little soy on it.

Koreans claim they invented sushi, and they certainly tend to take it more seriously than the US-based Japanese. They always use the freshest fish, with many Korean places having tanks for live fish that are still flopping as they are cut into sushi pieces. That stuff will just melt in your mouth.

The Koreans are great businessmen, though, so they typically give their sushi restaurants Japanese names. If you don't speak Korean and cannot tell the difference, the tip is the Korean places give you free side dishes before bringing out your sushi order.

In Atlanta, Kang Nam on Buford highway and its sister restaurant in Duluth are the best value. Hayakawa (Sushi House) on Buford highway has by far the best sushi, but it's unbelievably expensive.

I've not been to the non-buffet Ichiban. I love Ichiban buffet.

Nagoya in Jackson hasalso some rolls I like (the Mississippi Roll is an item you can order that's not on the menu that I enjoy; the Stoplight roll issomething I like as welltoo but am a bit disappointed that Nagoya reduced the portion/size of that roll).

There is no comparison in Jackson, except Little Tokyo (same family as Sakura Bana)......They refuse to give me their fish monger's name, I have asked..

I can't find a good sushi place in Jackson. Supposedly a place is opening up in Fondren, they have a sign up, but its looked the same way for about 2 years now.

Best Sushi - Hapi Sushi in Laguna Beach.

Warning! Not cheap. About $10 to $15 per order (8 pieces). Big selection on specialty rolls.

I'm not a fan of Pac Rim, I think years ago it was the premier place to get fish but not so much anymore. Although I really like the midtown Sekisui I now prefer DO Sushi, its run by the same people that run Beauty Shop, both are excellent non-chain places to grab some excellent cuisine

The best I have ever had was in Aspen at Nobu Matsuhisa's restaurant. But it was free to me. Had I been paying I probably wouldn't know.
