Rush to the bar before 5. 2 for 1 drafts. Wait til they start stamping forcover charges. Ask for said stamp to come back in. Rush home and take a shower, with one hand. Hold the other arm out of the shower so as to not get the stamp wet on stamped hand. Get dressed. Go back to Flo and Eddies. Get in free. Have more beer.

Actually pulled a 13 hour Saturday at Flo's once. Lots of sampler platters saved the day.

The bar at Lake Bruin called the 'Turkey Roost' or something used to make some mean mixed drinks back in the early 90's.

Loved the deck in the Spring, Summer and Fall.

I liked to get there early and post up at the tall table with my back to the wall near the entrance. That way you could see the trim as it came in.

I spent a ton of student loan money in that place, which really sucked for about 6 years after college.

I went once when I was a junior in highschoo, and I even ate the cheesesticks.... and I don't remember anything extravagant. Was it the cool bar before the Bistro, Mugs, Whiskey Blues , cotton district bars yada yada yada came along?.... I know it burned

I cant imagine it was much cooler than having 5 bars at one intersection (maxwell and university) like there is now in the cotton district

Cool inside and cool patio. Definitely one of the reasons it was good was b/c it was almost the only game in town so you always had a good crowd. I definitely wouldn't trade the current bar scene now to have Flo & Edie's back. however, it would definitely be competitive with the bars there now and with the locaction, I'm guessing would be the main party bar in that area, with Bin 612, sushi martini, etc. being more pregame, older crowd locations.

    Any old timers disagree?

My favorite place is at the kitchen table, right before my 10 year old son's bedtime, with he and I drinking a nice cold glass of milk. Age and fatherhood mellows one a bit.

Drinking that while drifting across the grass flats of Pinellas and Pasco Counties, Florida catching Reds and Specs. Or heading out about 75 miles off-shore for some reef donkeys, smokers and mahi

Flo and Eddies was about the only place to go when I was in school other than Ricks, Cheers and Tavern. Most of the chicks went there. I heard the owner burned it down on purpose, anyone else hear that?

Dave's: You could still smoke so at night it was almost unbearable for the non-smoker. On the other hand, you could walk to the outside "patio" and more than likely get high thanks to a friendly hippie. It was always a great place to go in the afternoon to watch a game and eat. Cheapest drinks ever when I was there, too (75 cent wells). It got a lot less crowded in the summer session, and usually had some great bands.

Rick's: Basically the "club" of the group. Never really was a fan.

Flo's: As laid back as Dave's, but cleaner and with less dirty hippie tail running around. It was definitely the place to go when underage, and the best place to go fishing for sorority girls. Mugshots kind of turned into the new Flo's for a while, but not quite the atmosphere of a spring afternoon on the patio with a sampler platter and a cold pitcher.

Old Venice: Too small, too crowded, drinks were expensive (relative to other Starkville bar prices). Never was a fan.
